A few reasons you should come to Spleodar * Every student, no matter how much Irish they speak at the start of the course, gets used to Riail na Gaeilge (the Irish Language Rule) and the all-Irish environment. * The morning classes focus on spoken Irish. * Your spoken Irish will improve greatly. * Because of the teamwork system, nobody is ever left out or alone. * The day is full of fun, with lots of activities morning, noon and night. * The friends you make here will be friends for life. * The fun doesn’t end after three weeks – with An Tóstal, An tOireachtas, etc., throughout the year.
In Spleodar Samhraidh, we teach Irish on Gaeltacht courses in Connemara, to foster respect for the Irish language among teenagers and teach them cooperation and leadership skills. We have both Senior and Junior courses.
GnáthláDaily Life: The students take part in a wide range of activities – 2.5 hours of classes, various sports, drama, singing, music, dancing, céilí, as well as trips to the beach, swimming, etc.
Information Meeting New students and their parents/guardians must attend a local information meeting/interview. If this meeting is missed, the student will not be allowed to attend a Spleodar course. A parent/guardian must accompany the student to this meeting. The meeting lasts 1.5 hours. The meeting involves a conversation in Irish between the student and a Spleodar staff member, as well as an information session to answer (in English) any questions the students and parents might have. The student must learn Amhrán na bhFiann before the meeting. Spleodar’s rules, including “Riail na Gaeilge” (the “Irish Language Rule”), will also be explained at the meeting.
Pacáil On the last Sunday of the course all families are invited to attend an Open Day during which students perform a show and display the results of their hard work on the course. Students stay with Gaeltacht families who speak Irish as their everyday means of communication. They travel between the Coláiste (college) and the house a few times a day to participate in the various activities.
Pocket money will be collected on the day of arrival and put safely in the college bank. Students may withdraw money daily for the shop.
