Spleodar is a not for profit Irish Language youth organisation which runs residential courses in the heart of Connemara during the Summer months.

An Roinn Gnóthaí, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta inspects the houses in which the students stay, ensuring standards laid out by the department are upheld.

The speaking and learning of Irish is a cornerstone of Spleodar, as is developing leadership skills. Willingness, effort and hard work are key to an enjoyable course. Students who immerse themselves in the course will benefit both in terms of language and personal development.

In Spleodar, we take our responsibilities for ensuring students safety and well-being very seriously. To this end, students are supervised at all times. Cinnirí stay in houses with the students and accompany them to and from the College. Teachers also visit houses on a regular basis and speak to students, cinnirí and the Bean an Tí.

All events are run on a group basis by cinnirí under the constant supervision of senior members of staff.

After Care

Speodar places huge emphasis on the importance of after-Care. Our Irish Language Youth Clubs are run in towns around the country by trained "Feightlithe" (3rd level students). They provide an opportunity for Spleodar's students to meet in a safe environment and partake in different activities, ranging from drama and workshops to charitable fund-raising events etc. through the medium of Irish. This enables students to see Irish as a living language in their local community.
